Erica Ferguson is a stage director and choreographer based in the DC Metro Area.

In her 2025-2026 season, Erica returns to The Catholic University of America to direct Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites and returns to the Victorian Lyric Opera Company to direct Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love. She makes her directing debut with Opera Lafayette working on their concerts “Queen of Hearts” and “New Woman.” Erica returns to Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as an Apprentice Assistant Stage Director for their productions of Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza and Gounod's Romeo and Juliet.

In 2025, Erica joined the staging staff of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis as an Apprentice Assistant Stage Director for their 50th Festival Season. She worked on Shawna Lucey's production of Die Fledermaus and Christopher Alden's production of Don Pasquale, in addition to staging scenes for the Gerdine Young Artists and assistant directing for Patricia Racette on her scenes for the Center Stage Concert.

Stage direction credits include Puccini's La bohéme at The Catholic University of America, Louis Varney's Les Mousquetaires au couvent, Offenbach's La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein and La vie parisienne with L'Opera Comique de Washington at The Embassy of France, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Bizet’s Carmen, Douglas Moore’s Gallantry, and Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti with Loudoun Lyric Opera, Heggie’s Cinderella 99 and a Jake Heggie Tribute Concert with Miami Music Festival, Weill’s Down in the Valley and Thomas Pasatierri’s Signor Deluso with University of Maryland’s OperaTerps, Gilbert & Sullivan's The Gondoliers with Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer with Victorian Lyric Opera Company. In 2020, Erica directed and redesigned a live production for the small screen in Victorian Lyric Opera Company’s A Gilbert & Sullivan Drawing Room. Taking great safety measures, her team recorded both virtually and in-person to create a story that connected the past with the future of operetta. 

 

Erica has assistant directed for David Toulson's production of Dead Man Walking with Miami Music Festival, Mark Ross Clark's production of Albert Herring with Chicago Summer Opera, James Harp’s productions of Ritorna Vincitor and Bravissimo Bel Canto with Maryland Opera, Helen Aberger’s production of H.M.S. Pinafore with Victorian Lyric Opera Company, Amanda Consol’s production of Sunder, a world premiere with Maryland Opera Studio and Annapolis Opera, and Raymond O. Caldwell and Carl DuPont’s productions for the Washington National Opera Institute. 

 

With her background deeply rooted in dance, Erica has choreographed productions at Annapolis Opera, Young Victorian Theatre Company, Maryland Opera, Towson University, University of Maryland’s OperaTerps, and Duke Ellington School of the Arts.

 

Erica Ferguson holds a Masters in Music from the University of Maryland and was a member of the Maryland Opera Studio. She earned her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Towson University. She is an alumni of the Beth Morrison Projects Producer Academy and ArtEquity’s National Board Training.
